Open Water Diver

(Current course dates can be found here)

We are a PADI 5 Star Scuba diving school located in the North West, and we are based on the border of Stockport and Manchester on the Lancashire / Cheshire border and a short step from Tameside. so if you want to learn to dive with the professionals you have come to the right site. The PADI Open Water course consists of three elements. Theory Lessons, Sheltered Water Lessons (pool) and Open Water Dives.

Firstly you start to learn to dive in the comfort of your own home because we provide you with a scuba pack which includes the PADI Open Water manual, the PADI course DVD's a PADI log book, an ERDPML calculator for planning your scuba dives safely and a few other bits of useful information. You will then learn basic scuba theory in our classrooms at the dive centre school. Once you have learned the theory the practical lessons begin in the safety of the swimming pool, here you will be introduced to the scuba equipment you will be using throughout your training. You learn to scuba dive in small safe groups being taught at your own speed until you are proficient ready for the Open Water section.

When you have mastered the scuba drills in the pool your instructor will introduce you to the world of open water diving. You will receive help and guidance as you progress through the lessons and will be given a qualification record book to keep track on your progress.

The two ways people complete the PADI Open water diver are to either do a 'referral' which means you do the pool and theory in the UK and then finish the outside dives off abroad. Or, the way most people learn, is to do the full scuba course over here which means completing the referral first (open water 1) then you will go on to dive in the open water over two days (arranged at a mutually convenient time during the referral course) and do the open water 2 course. The reason most people do the full scuba course with us you will be taught how to use a drysuit, this means rather than learning in a wetsuit abroad and then having to 're-learn' certain skills when you get back you are ready to dive at home or abroad. Its not as cold as you think in the UK with appropriate thermal protection.

We have two options for running the PADI Open Water course, you can either do the pool dives and theory over a weekend or during evening courses. Because the weekends are much more popular the dates for these can be found at the bottom of the page, you will just need to attend one weekend set of dates to complete the referral part of the PADI Open Water course. Evening courses are run over four weeks, our pool session is on a Monday from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and the theory evening is run any other evening but Wednesdays seem quite popular. These courses are run on request for two or more students. The outside Open water dives are arranged during the course at a mutually convenient time.

Please note you are not completely qualified until you have completed both parts of the PADI Open Water course. We can finish of part completed referral courses that you didn't have the time to finish off too.
